Another cool track from The Official Gasoline Brothers Vault. This is a funny bluegrass version of our cult hit Sleeping pills and asteroids. It was recorderd live at Tivoli Utrecht May 15, 2008, celebrating ’10 years 3voor12′. Performed by the fantastic Bluegrass Boogiemen from Utrecht. If you don’t know who they are, get the hell out of here and check out their bluegrass stuff immediately!

This Gasoline Brothers footage was thought to be lost. But director Gerben Schmidt of Zomp TV retrieved it when he was cleaning up his video archives. We’re glad he did!

It’s a cool registration of a living room show we played January 29, 2006. Not just your ordinary living room, but the living room of Tivoli booking agent Johan Gijsen. And it was not just your ordinary living room show, for that matter. It was a fullblown rock show, with real amps and loud music. If you’re interested, there’s a nice review on 3voor12. The show itself was quite err… well… legendary if I dare say so, and this footage captures some of the magic we felt that afternoon. Enjoy!

We’ve finally met Koos Moerenhout, the cyclist who initiated The Gasoline Brothers Tour de France hype. Dutch regional broadcasters Omroep Brabant filmed us yesterday, the day we met. Have a look!

Utrechtse band neemt liedje op voor Nederlands wielerkampioen Koos Moerenhout

The Gasoline Brothers hype in en om Tour de France-wielerpeloton dankzij Twitter

Dankzij Twitter is de Utrechtse band The Gasoline Brothers dit jaar een bescheiden hype in en om het wielerpeloton. Niet alleen Nederlandse topwielrenners als Koos Moerenhout en Steven de Jongh lopen weg met de muziek van The Gasoline Brothers, ook begeleiders van de Belgische Quick Step-wielerploeg en het Amerikaanse Columbia (het team van sprinter Mark Cavendish) hebben inmiddels muziek van de broertjes op hun iPod staan. Voeg daar ook nog eens de namen aan toe van Eurosport-wielercommentator Danny Nelissen (zelf oud-profwielrenner) en Radio Tour de France-verslaggever Gio Lippens, en we kunnen met recht spreken van een klein sneeuwbaleffect.

Downloads uit Frankrijk

Het begon allemaal toen wielrenner Koos Moerenhout enthousiast twitterde over The Gasoline Brothers. Daarbij vermeldde hij ook de plek waar het eerste album van de band gratis te downloaden is http://thegasolinebrothers.bandcamp.com/album/hm). Binnen een dag werd het album meer  dan 50 keer gedownload, terwijl het uit 2006 stammende album op ‘normale’ dagen zo’n 5 keer wordt gedownload. Toen The Gasoline Brothers de statistieken raadpleegden viel op dat 90% van de downloads vanuit Frankrijk kwam. Juist ja, precies die plekken waar de Tour de France-karavaan was neergestreken…  De dagen erna zagen The Gasoline Brothers met toenemende verbazing lovende berichten over hun muziek op Twitter, gepost door wielrenners en hun begeleiders.

Speciaal nieuw nummer

Overigens heeft de hype leuke consequenties voor de aanstichter ervan: Koos Moerenhout. Toen hij een week voor het Nederlands kampioenschap over The Gasoline Brothers twitterde, ontstond er een conversatie tussen renner en band. Als Moerenhout het weekend erna Nederlands kampioen zou worden, zou de band een speciaal liedje voor hem opnemen.  En verdomd, Koos Moerenhout werd Nederlands kampioen! Volgens afspraak gaan The Gasoline Brothers het nummer, met als werktitel ‘ Koos is on the loose’, nu opnemen. Release is 27 augustus. Vlak voor aanvang van de Ronde van Spanje (Vuelta), die dit jaar in Drenthe van start gaat. Daar zal Moerenhout zich voor het eerst met zijn ‘eigen’ liedje op de iPod op de koers kunnen voorbereiden.

The Gasoline Brothers

The Gasoline Brothers debuteerden in 2006 met het lovend ontvangen album ‘Hm!’. Op 5 oktober a.s. verschijnt ‘Tsk!’, het nieuwe album van de band. Met opnieuw pakkende popsongs in het niemandsland tussen Wilco, Guided by Voices, Big Star en Posies.
